Hiranandani-Vandrevala makes statement in open court

Legal action against Sunday Times settled

On 3 May 2017 Ms Priya Hiranandani-Vandrevala made a Statement in Open Court, marking the end of her legal action against Times Newspapers Ltd.

The article in question was published in August 2015 and referred to allegations made against Ms Hiranandani-Vandrevala and her father by Hirco in proceedings in the Isle of Man and private arbitration proceedings in Singapore. The arbitration proceedings have since concluded, finding in favour of Mr Hiranandani, and Hirco’s claims in the Isle of Man have been discontinued. The claim against the Sunday Times was issued in defamation and malicious falsehood in October 2015, and there was a ruling on meaning in February 2016. The claim was settled in November 2016, following which the Sunday Times published an apology online and in hard copy. The article has also been taken down from the Sunday Times website. Ms Hiranandani-Vandrevala’s solicitor read out the statement in open court before Warby J on 3 May 2017, and asked that the record be withdrawn.

5RB‘s James Price QC and Adam Speker acted for the Claimant, and Adam Wolanski acted for the Defendant.
