Alex is a highly regarded defamation, privacy and confidence specialist. Commended in both Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500, Alex continues to act for both defendants and claimants alike.
Recent cases (2010 to date) include: Desmond v Bower, acted for Defendant (author) when sued by Desmond over Bower’s bio of Conrad Black; Materazzi v NGN Ltd – acted for defendant newspaper when sued over allegation of racist abuse by C against Zinedine Zidane; Ashley Cole v NGN Ltd and MGN Ltd – acted for defendant newspapers in privacy action brought by Cole over articles in Sun and Mirror about infidelity; Bowman v MGN Ltd [2010] EWCH 895 – acted for defendant in assessment of damages hearing pursuant to Offer of Amends procedure; Trimingham v Associated Newspapers Ltd [2012] All ER 717 – acted for defendant in privacy and harassment claim brought by partner of former cabinet minister Chris Huhne; AAA v Associated Newspapers Ltd [2013] EMLR 2 – acted for defendant in privacy case brought a child of famous father seeking to restrain publication of identity of father (this case is going to the Court of Appeal in April 2013). Since 2009 to date, Alex has acted for Glenn Mulcaire, a private investigator involved in phone hacking scandal, in his defence of numerous civil claims, including taking his case seeking to protect his privilege against self-incrimination to Supreme Court (Phillips v Mulcaire [2013] 1 AC 1.
In 2012 to 2013, Alex has been involved in advising and and formulating draft arbitration service rules for the resolution of press disputes following the Leveson report.
