Patrick joins Chambers from practice in Australia (called 2005) where he maintained a general practice at the Bar.  He has appeared in various reported cases of significance.  While in practice in Australia Patrick was a well-known practitioner in the fields of defamation and privacy where he was frequently instructed both as junior counsel and sole counsel in various trials, appeals and interlocutory matters.  Most recently he has been instructed as sole counsel in a two-week libel trial acting for the former CEO of a multi-million dollar private club and as junior counsel in a three week libel trial acting for a former Deputy Mayor. Patrick also regularly provides pre-publication advice to a number of national newspapers.

Patrick’s other advocacy experience includes frequent appearances in interlocutory proceedings before the Supreme Court, the Federal Court of Australia, inferior Courts, State and Federal tribunals, including bringing urgent applications for injunctions on behalf of Claimants (and resisting such applications for Defendants) attempting to restrain publications.

Numerous appearances as junior counsel in the Court of Appeal and counsel in trials before the Supreme Court, the Federal Court of Australia, inferior courts, State and Federal tribunals.

Appearing as counsel in mediations, negotiations and other forms of alternate dispute resolution.

Various appearances as counsel in criminal trials, upon sentence hearings, and appearances for liquidators at public examinations.

Before pupillage and prior to commencing practice at the Bar in Australia, Patrick worked as a solicitor in the media and commercial litigation department of a leading Australian law firm where he was involved in providing pre-publication advice to a large television network concerning matters of contempt, reporting restrictions, libel and breach of confidence, as well as defending a number of libel actions. Patrick was also formerly a Judicial Assistant to the Hon Justice Ian Callinan AC of the High Court of Australia.
