Yuli Takatsuki
Profile
Since joining Chambers in 2008, Yuli has been instructed in a number of matters, including acting for Channel Four and The Spectator in defamation claims. She is currently acting as Junior Counsel for Channel Four and production company, Studio Lambert, in relation to a defamation claim by Matthew Fiddes over a documentary about the Jackson family, which is listed for a 4-week trial in June 2010. Yuli also regularly provides pre-publication advice to The Sunday Times, The Observer and The Guardian and has spent 8 months on secondment at Channel Four providing broadcasting legal and compliance advice.
Yuli undertook her pupillage at 5RB, where her pupil supervisors were Adam Wolanski, Jacob Dean, Matthew Nicklin and Jonathan Barnes. During this time, Yuli gained significant experience in all of Chambers’ areas of practice, including Privacy and Confidence, Defamation and Internet Law. She was involved in a number of notable cases including Malik v Newspost Ltd & Ors, Ivereigh v Associated Newspapers Ltd, Blackwell v Bates & Ors, Warren v Random House Group Ltd, and Curistan v Times Newspapers Ltd. In the last months of pupillage Yuli also undertook placements at Channel Four and Times Newspapers.
Before pupillage, Yuli worked as a lawyer at Ofcom, specializing in broadcasting contents and standards and breach of privacy cases. She was involved in a number of high profile cases including the Celebrity Big Brother race row adjudication and the “Quiz TV” sanctions investigations. She advised on a number of other matters including political advertising, internet regulation and EU telecommunications and spectrum law.
Yuli has also worked as a legal advisor for the Hoxton Trust and has gained commercial litigation experience working on a complex, multi-million pound professional negligence claim at a leading London law firm.
