George wins 75K libel damages

Former Eastenders actor successful in claim against The Sun

Mohammed George, an actor who appeared in the soap opera Eastenders, has today won his libel claim against The Sun.

Mohammed George, a regular in the BBC programme for 5 years, sued the newspaper over allegations that he behaved like an ‘animal’ in a spar with his then girlfriend, which he claims damaged his career as an actor. The Sun had defending its reporting of the incident in a Camden Town street in 2006.

Mr George had told Mrs Justice Sharp and a jury at the High Court that the reporting of the incident was false and distorted and that the argument had been about his then girlfriend (and mother of his daughter) taking drugs. He said that he was not someone who would ever hit a woman.

A jury today found for Mr George and awarded him £75,000 in damages.
