PCC publishes phone tapping report

No evidence that phone message hacking is ongoing or that News of the World mislead Commission

The PCC has published a report following claims by the Guardian  that journalists at the News of the World had used private investigators to listen to the voicemail messages of many high profile public figures in pursuit of their stories.

The report found no evidence that it was materially misled by the News of the World and no evidence that phone message hacking is ongoing.  The report has been criticised by Alan Rushbridger in the Guardian as “worse than pointless” and “actually rather dangerous to the press”.
