Tory Peer to head PCC
Baroness Buscombe succeeds Sir Christopher Meyer
Baroness Buscombe, a shadow frontbench spokesman for the Conservative Party in the House of Lords, has been appointed Chair of the Press Complaint Commission to succeed Sir Christopher Meyer from March 2009.
Peta Buscombe was elevated to the House of Lords in 1998 and has handled, amongst others, culture, education and home affairs briefs. She has served as Chief Executive of the Advertising Association and is a barrister by training. When her appointment to the Chair of the Press Complaints Commission was announced on Friday she said "I have always been a champion of self-regulation, which is vital to balance the freedom of the press with the rights of the public."
