Desmond Browne QC addresses the Leveson Inquiry
What redress should be available for breach of standards?
Desmond Browne QC addressed the Leveson Inquiry on Wednesday 12th October 2011. His paper, Supporting a free press and high standards – approaches to Regulation, is available on the 5RB website.
Mr Browne began with the premise that litigation is expensive, should be avoided and that effective self-regulation is the best route for professions. He goes on to offer his views on saving costs by either trial by judge alone or looking to alternatives such as mediation and arbitration.
Turning his comments to regulation, Mr Browne discusses how the PCC can become more effective and not self-serving.
