Harassment

While the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 was introduced to provide a remedy against stalking its scope has widened considerably. Members of 5RB have appeared in many decisions in harassment cases, including Thomas v News Group Newspapers Ltd [2002] EMLR 78 which extended the legislation's scope to the behaviour of a newspaper, Bloom v Robinson-Millar, CC v ABCray v  Hancock and Howlett v Holding.  In more recent times the legislation has also been used to obtain injunctions on behalf of celebrities protecting them from being hounded by photographic agencies, paparazzi photographers and to prevent the distribution of libellous material.

Members of 5RB frequently advise on harassment cases (involving both celebrities and individuals) for Claimants and Defendants.
