Reporting the Courts
It is often difficult to balance the rights of individuals to a fair trial whilst ensuring that justice is open and the public are aware of what is happening in our courts. On occasions when the press feel that an order is too restrictive or inhibiting members of 5RB are instructed to challenge such orders, often in the course of a high profile criminal trial or one of local importance.
Barristers from 5RB are frequently instructed to apply to lift reporting restrictions imposed by the Crown and Magistrates Courts, the Employment Tribunal, the High Court and before Judicial Inquiries and Tribunals.
