Trial in Morrisons data leak case begins

Claim in misuse of private information, breach of confidence and under DPA

The trial on liability in a claim against Morrisons supermarket over an incident in which an employee leaked staff personal data online begins today, before Mr Justice Langstaff.

The claim is brought in misuse of private information, breach of confidence and for breach of the Data Protection Act 1998. In what is thought to be the first example of such an order being made in relation to privacy or data protection claims, there is a Group Litigation Order in place, with over 5,000 claimants. The trial is expected to last 10 days.

5RB‘s Jonathan Barnes and Victoria Jolliffe act for the Claimants.
