5RB Quiz 2015

9th annual quiz raises money for Bar Pro Bono Unit and FRU

5RB hosted its 9th annual charity pub quiz last night, to raise funds for the Bar Pro Bono Unit and the Free Representation Unit (FRU).

Teams from many leading solicitors firms and media organisations competed over seven rounds of questions set by Greg Callus and John Stables, with the quiz compered by Matthew Nicklin QC. 5RB would like to thank all who attended.

The team from Mirror Group Newspapers were victorious on the night, with Collyer Bristow in second, and joint third place going to Carter Ruck, Slater & Gordon and Herbert Smith. All were rewarded with champagne. The golden shredder went to the team from the Bar Pro Bono Unit and FRU.

The Bar Pro Bono Unit is an independent charity which helps to match barristers prepared to undertake pro bono work with those who need their help. The Unit receives applications for assistance through advice agencies and solicitors and aims to help in cases where the applicant cannot afford to pay for the assistance sought or obtain public funding, has a meritorious case, and needs the help a barrister can provide.

FRU was founded in 1972 and is a registered charity. It provides legal advice, case preparation and advocacy in tribunal cases for those who could not otherwise obtain legal support, for want of personal means or public funding. To provide this service, FRU trains volunteer law students and legal professionals in the early stages of their careers in the skills required to give confident and competent support for the rights of others.
