Senior Clerk retires
Kim Janes, who has worked with us at 5RB (and before that at 10 South Square) since 1972, retires today. She has been our senior clerk for 25 of those years.
Joint head of 5RB, Desmond Browne QC said:
“The response to the news of Kim’s retirement has proved just how much she is valued by our clients as well as by those she has clerked. She has dedicated her whole working life to 5RB, and been senior clerk for a quarter of a century. If you seek her monument, just come to 5 Gray’s Inn Square where her legacy will live on.”
Patrick Milmo QC, 5RB’s longest serving head of chambers, who worked with Kim for 15 years added:
“In the course of the 25 years that Kim has been our senior clerk, Chambers has been transformed from a tranquil backwater of expertise to one of the best-known and acknowledged leaders of the specialist bar in the field of media law. To that achievement Kim has made a huge contribution by way of her quiet efficiency, her ambitious nature, her drive and resolute determination to raise Chambers’ profile and improve the service we provide. And throughout she has retained the trust, respect and friendship of those on both sides of the fence, both members of 5RB and our clients. For me personally it is a sad day: Kim has been my clerk for over 40 years but she deserves and I wish her many peaceful happy years of retirement.”
Kim intends to begin her retirement with a world tour.
Andrew Love, Deputy Senior Clerk and colleague of Kim said:
“I’m sure that when I walked into Chambers back in 1995 to be interviewed by Kim for the role of junior clerk, that neither of us would have thought we would then work together for more than 20 years. Kim’s patience but also her encouragement, support and good nature has helped to create an environment that has made the 5RB clerks room such a great place to work. On behalf of the Clerks’ room, we wish her the very best of luck and hope that she enjoys the early months of her retirement travelling around the world.”
Matthew Nicklin QC, Joint Head of 5RB said:
“Kim has been my senior clerk ever since I joined 5RB. Her leaving today is the end of an era. I know that everyone here will miss her and will want to send their best wishes for a long and happy retirement. Her drive, enthusiasm and leadership has been a key part of making what 5RB is today; the leading media law set. From all of us, Kim, thank you.”
Andrew Love will take up responsibility as 5RB’s new Senior Clerk from Monday.
