MOJ releases latest statistics on privacy injunctions

Lowest number of proceedings since records began in 2011

The Ministry of Justice has released the latest set of statistics on the number of privacy injunctions dealt with at the High Court or Court of Appeal at the Royal Courts of Justice, relating to the period July-December 2013. These show that in that period the Royal Courts of Justice dealt with the lowest number of privacy injunction proceedings since data collection of this nature began in August 2011.

There was only one proceeding in which the High Court considered an application for a new interim injunction prohibiting the publication of private or confidential information. And only one proceeding in which the High Court considered whether to continue or amend an interim injunction. There were no proceedings in which an application for a permanent injunction was considered, and no proceedings before the Court of Appeal relating to privacy injunctions.
