Patrick Moloney QC becomes a judge

Libel silk to join the Circuit Bench

1 Brick Court libel silk Patrick Moloney has been appointed to the Circuit Bench.


After graduating from Oxford University, Patrick was called to the Bar by Middle Temple in 1976. He joined 1 Brick Court in 1977 and took silk in 1998.  He was appointed as a Recorder in 2000 and as a Deputy High Court Judge earlier this year.


As a recognised leader in the field of defamation and media law, Patrick has been involved in many important decisions in the area including: Oliver v Chief Constable of NorthumbriaGKR Karate v Yorkshire Post, Friend v Civil Aviation Authority & Others and most recently Radu v Houston & Others.


Following his appointment, Patrick has been assigned to the South Eastern circuit and will be based at Peterborough Combined Court Centre from 17 January 2008.
