Supreme Court hears Times’ Flood Appeal

4th Reynolds privilege case to reach highest court in 10 years

The Supreme Court is hearing The Times’ appeal in Flood v Times Newspapers Ltd on the 17 and 18 October 2011.

Last July the Court of Appeal overturned the finding made by Mr Justice Tugendhat that a report published by The Times about Detective Sergeant Flood was protected by Reynolds privilege. A case report of that decision can be found here.

5RB’s James Price QC and William Bennett (instructed by Edwin Coe LLP) act for Mr Flood.

Media lawyers need not leave the comfort of their desks to watch the proceedings. The Supreme Court is the only UK court where proceedings are televised live. A broadcast is accessible from the Sky News platform.
