5RB is delighted that Adam Wolanski, William Bennett and Christina Michalos have been announced as new Queen’s Counsel.
Adam Wolanski was the 2017-18 Chambers and Partners ‘Junior of the Year’ in the privacy and defamation category. He also won the award in 2011- 2012 and was shortlisted in 2008-9. He has an expertise in privacy and confidentiality issues arising in legal proceedings, particularly in family disputes. He has appeared and advised in many of the main cases in this field. Significant cases include Sir Cliff Richard OBE v BBC and Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police and PNM v Times Newspapers Ltd.
William Bennett has appeared in some of the most significant libel and privacy actions of recent years, including Flood v Times Newspapers, Jack Monroe v Katie Hopkins, Ali & Aslam v Channel 5 and Paul Burrell v Max Clifford. Chambers & Partners 2018 said of William, “Specialist media junior focusing on libel, breach of confidence and privacy…He appears for both claimants and defendants in high-profile disputes…He’s tenacious, practical and always works hard to achieve a positive result. He’s very well regarded for his advice and the outcomes he achieves are first-rate.”
Christina Michalos is a leading specialist in privacy, media & entertainment law (including data protection and freedom of information), soft intellectual property, and sports law. She is known as a leading practitioner in image rights work and is the author of The Law of Photography and Digital Images. Christina also has extensive public law experience as a member of the Attorney General’s panel of advocates for over 18 years particularly in relation to prisons and the armed forces. Recent cases Christina has appeared in include Lisle Mainwaring v Associated Newspapers, Axon v Ministry of Defence, and Sube v News Group Newspapers Ltd & Express Newspapers She also acted in The Leveson Inquiry as junior Counsel for the Metropolitan Police.
