Desmond Browne QC, joint Head of Chambers at 5RB, has been appointed to a government panel considering changes to the law of libel.

The panel, announced by the Lord Chancellor, Jack Straw, is to consider whether the law of libel needs reform and if so to make recommendations as to solutions.  Further details are available here.

Peaches Geldof accepted libel damages, an unreserved public apology and payment of her legal costs from the publishers of the Daily Star over a front page claim that she charged £5,000 a night for sexual services.  5RB's Adam Speker, instructed by Swan Turton, acted for Ms Geldof.  Further details are available here.
