Actor wins ‘dog theft’ libel apology

Nicholas Cage receives damages for drunk-driving and chihuahua theft slurs

Actress Kathleen Turner, her publishers and Associated Newspapers Ltd have apologised to actor Nicholas Cage for allegations about him published in Ms Turner’s memoirs, extracts of which were serialised in the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday.

Ms Turner had alleged in her book, entitled ‘Send Yourself Roses’, that when the two actors were filming Francis Ford Coppola’s motion picture, ‘Peggy Sue Got Married’, Mr Cage had been arrested twice for drunk-driving and for stealing a Chihuahua. She has now accepted that these allegations were untrue and wholly unfounded.

The Defendants agreed to pay all Mr Cage’s legal costs and to make a ‘substantial’ donation to a charity designated by the actor.

5RB’s Anna Coppola (instructed by Schillings) acted for Mr Cage.
