Conference5RB 2018

Largest number of delegates yet attend biennial event, at which Emma Bate, General Counsel of the ICO, delivered the keynote speech

Conference5RB was held on 26 September 2018 at IET Savoy Place.

Emma Bate, General Counsel for the ICO, delivered the keynote speech, discussing the most significant issues facing the ICO and industry.  These included issues arising from Brexit and the GDPR, as well as the ‘disruption’ caused by digital election campaigning through social media channels. The full speech is available to read here.

In plenary sessions members of 5RB considered the latest developments in privacy, data protection and defamation. Following lunch a series of workshops addressed practical problems in media law, including how to cope with a data breach, and the meaning of serious financial loss in s.1 of the Defamation Act 2013. The full programme is available here.

If you attended Conference5RB you can view the papers from the plenary sessions and workshops here (delegate password required).

5RB would like to thank all those who attended for their contributions throughout the day.
