Lord McNally confirms Act will come into force in New Year
Justice Minister Lord McNally has confirmed that the Defamation Act 2013 will come into force on 1 January 2014.
The Act received Royal Assent on 25 April of this year, but requires an Order from the Secretary of State to bring it into force.
The Defamation (Operators of Websites) Regulations 2013, made under section 5 of the Act, which sets out the details of the new defence for website operators will come into force on the same date, having been approved by both Houses of Parliament.
