Privacy case in the Court of Appeal

McKennitt v Ash appeal begins today

The Court of Appeal today begins hearing the Defendant’s appeal in the privacy case brought by Canadian folk singer and composer, Loreena McKennitt.

In December last year, the singer successfully sued a former friend who had written a book about her for breach of privacy. The decision of Mr Justice Eady was regarded as significant in developing law of privacy, particularly in the application of the Von Hannover decision to English domestic law.

The appeal will be heard by Buxton, Latham & Longmore LJJ.

5RB‘s Desmond Browne QC and David Sherborne (instructed by Carter-Ruck) are acting for the Claimant.
