Sheffield Wednesday FC drop libel claims against fans

Internet libel claim over comments on supporters' website withdrawn

Sheffield Wednesday FC and its Chief Executive, Kaven Walker, have dropped their libel claims against a number of the club’s fans over comments posted on the bulletin boards of supporters’ website owls.co.uk.

In regard to their claim against one of the fans, Nigel Short, which they have been pursuing since February 2006, they have agreed to pay his legal costs.  Mr Short had pleaded defences which included vulgar abuse and fair comment.

5RB’s William Bennett (instructed by George Davies) acted for Mr Short.
