The Bill of Rights Bill & freedom of speech

New article on the possible impact of the Bill of Rights Bill on media & communications cases

The Bill of Rights Bill was introduced to Parliament by the Government and received its First Reading on 22 June 2022. Its Second Reading is currently due to take place on 12 September 2022.

If enacted, the Bill of Rights Bill would repeal and replace the Human Rights Act 1998.

Godwin Busuttil of 5RB was asked by Joanna George of the Faculty of Law at the University of Cambridge if he would write an ‘explainer’ article for the Constitutional Law Matters website (a project run by the Centre of Public Law at Cambridge) assessing the potential impact of the Bill of Rights Bill on freedom of expression cases.

The resulting article, in two parts, may be found here and here.
