5RB Charity Quiz 2024

Last week, 5RB hosted its 16th annual charity quiz at the Crypt on the Green to raise funds for Advocate and the Free Representation Unit. This year we were joined by 25 teams from various leading firms and media organisations.

Our congratulations to Astraea Linskills, assisted by Ben Hamer (a 3-time 5RB Quiz champion), who took home this year’s trophy, closely followed by Guardian News, the BBC and Simkins. Taylor Wessing took home the golden shredder.

We were proud to raise a total of £8,400 to support our chosen charities.

Our special thanks to Adam Speker KC (5RB’s resident quizmaster and question-setter) and Georgina Gills for organising the event.  A huge thanks to all of our clients and colleagues for contributing.

Advocate is an independent charity which helps to match barristers prepared to undertake pro bono work with those who need their help. The Unit receives applications for assistance through advice agencies and solicitors and aims to help in cases where the applicant cannot afford to pay for the assistance sought or obtain public funding, has a meritorious case, and needs the help a barrister can provide.

FRU was founded in 1972 and is a registered charity. It provides legal advice, case preparation and advocacy in tribunal cases for those who could not otherwise obtain legal support, for want of personal means or public funding. To provide this service, FRU trains volunteer law students and legal professionals in the early stages of their careers in the skills required to give confident and competent support for the rights of others.
