In the last month, 5RB hosted two internships designed to promote social mobility at the Bar and offer students insight into life at 5RB.
PASS
The first was hosted in conjunction with the Pegasus Access and Support Scheme (‘PASS’). We welcomed two students who, over the course of three days, attended court hearings and took part in mock advocacy exercises and pupillage interviews.
PASS is open to state school-educated students who are on track for (or have obtained) a 2:1 in their undergraduate degree and meet the criteria set out here.
BVL
The second was hosted as part of 5RB’s established partnership with BVL, a social mobility charity. Over two days, five BVL students were given talks on key practice areas by Jacob Dean, Kate Wilson, Felicity McMahon, Chloe Strong, John Stables and Hector Penny; took part in a mock fees negotiation with Head Clerk Andrew Love and Deputy Senior Clerk Antony Braeger; had a careers advice session with Lily Walker-Parr; toured Middle Temple with outreach officer Richard Frost; and networked with members of chambers.
BVL opportunities are open to young people between the ages of 16 and 18 years old who are currently studying for or have recently completed their A-Levels at a non-fee paying school or college. More information on BVL can be found here.
