Andrew Scott was this year's recipient for his role in 'Vanya'

Andrew Scott received the award for playing all eight roles in the West End show ‘Vanya’, an adaptation of Checkhov’s Uncle Vanya by Simon Stevens. This is Scott’s third Critics’ Circle award: he won Best Shakespearean Performance for Hamlet in 2017 and Best Actor for Present Laughter in 2019.
The Critics’ Circle is the oldest professional association of critics of drama, art and architecture, music, cinema, dance and books. It was initially formed as the ‘Society of Drama Critics’ in 1907 and was rebranded in 1913. The drama awards were launched in 1989.
