On Monday 27 June 2022 the High Court is to review preparations for trial in libel case against Jeremy Corbyn
Mr Justice Nicklin will on Monday hear the pre-trial review (PTR) of a libel action brought by a blogger, Richard Millett, against the Rt Hon Jeremy Corbyn MP. The 15-day trial is listed to begin on 10 October 2022.
Mr Millett’s claim arises from statements made by Mr Corbyn on the Andrew Marr Show in September 2018. The statements concern the Claimant’s allegedly disruptive conduct at meetings and his allegedly abusive conduct towards a speaker at a particular meeting in 2013.
A trial of preliminary issues in June 2020 determined the meaning of the words published and their character as statements of fact. An appeal by Mr Corbyn against that judgment was rejected by the Court Of Appeal. A 5RB case note of the Court of Appeal decision can be found here.
Mr Millett is represented by William Bennett QC and John Stables of 5RB.
