5RB hosts Media Law Insight Evening for BVL students

5RB is a proud sponsor of BVL, a charity offering free legal educational and work experience opportunities to students aged between 16-18 who attend non-fee paying schools.

On 6 December, 5RB invited students on this year’s programme to a virtual insight evening. The session included introductory talks from Jane Phillips (Joint Head of Chambers), Luke Browne and Gemma McNeil-Walsh on defamation, harassment and privacy law; a view from the Clerks’ room by Head Clerk Andrew Love; and a mock preliminary issue meaning trial authored by Jonathan Scherbel-Ball and Ben Gallop, argued by Adam Speker KC and Greg Callus, and presided over by Godwin Busuttil.

5RB will also host a work experience programme for up to 5 BVL students in the new year.

In November, 5RB’s members Jacob Dean and Lily Walker-Parr co-chaired the final of the BVL’s Introduction to the Legal System programme alongside Tom Weekes KC. BVL’s students submitted essays based on Fearn v Board of Trustees of the Tate Gallery and the top four entrants presented their essays in Courtroom 2 at the Supreme Court.
