The Joint Select Committee on the Draft Defamation Bill has announced that it will publish its report on Wednesday 19 October 2011.
The Joint Committee is a committee of both Houses of Parliament appointed to conduct pre-legislative scrutiny of the Draft Defamation Bill, which was unveiled on 15 March 2011. The report follows an extended period of consultation on the draft bill and the taking of oral evidence from lawyers including 5RB’s Desmond Browne QC and Adrienne Page QC, journalists and online publishers.
