The libel action brought by the stockbrokers Collins Stewart and its Chief Executive, Terry Smith, against Dale Langley and the solicitors’ firm of Dale Langley & Co has concluded with the making of a statement in open court. The Defendants apologised for publishing various defamatory allegations of the Claimants to a number of newspapers and for the publication to and the republication by the Sunday Telegraph of those allegations. The allegations were of criminal and dishonest financial wrongdoing. The Guardian described the Claimants’ victory as a “landmark legal settlement”.
