Brexit: business as usual for GDPR

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has issued a statement (29 January 2020) recording that until 31 December 2020 – the Brexit transition period – data protection law and its enforcement will continue as before.  The ICO’s Brexit FAQs have however been updated with its advice that for 2020 companies and organisations that offer goods or services to people in the EU do not need to appoint a European representative.

GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 remain for now in full force and effect.  5RB’s barristers continue to advise and act for data subjects, data controllers and other parties affected by the UK’s data protection regime.

The ICO’s Brexit guidance can be found here.
