Leveson Inquiry: 2nd Teaching Session held

On Wednesday 28 September 2011 members of the Leveson Inquiry Panel heard from 5RB’s Mark Warby QC on the existing legal framework governing the operation of the media, including the relationship between Articles 8 and 10 of the European Convention of Human Rights, data protection, freedom of information, and the law relating to broadcasting, both at UK and at applicable European level.

The teaching session was second of three planned to take place prior to the Inquiry launching in October. The first session, which took place in private on 19 September, covered the technical aspects of intercepting phone calls, voicemails and emails and other means of access to private information. The third session, due to take place on 5 October will cover regulatory systems and models in different sectors and countries.

Transcripts of the 2nd and 3rd sessions will be available on the Leveson Inquiry website. Mark Warby assisted the Inquiry pro bono.
