Duke of Sussex v Associated Newspapers Ltd: preliminary issue judgment handed down

The High Court has today handed down judgment on several preliminary issues in a libel claim brought by the Duke of Sussex against Associated Newspapers Limited over an article published in February 2022 in the Mail on Sunday and on MailOnline.

The trial of preliminary issues took place on 9 June. Mr Justice Nicklin has held that the article, in the meaning found by the Court, contains both expressions of opinion and allegations of fact, and is defamatory of the Duke of Sussex at common law.
