Lord Justice Warby appointed as a Judicial Commissioner of the JAC

His Majesty the King, on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, has approved the appointment of Sir Mark Warby as a Judicial Commissioner of the Judicial Appointments Commission (“JAC”) for a term of three years from 1 June 2023.

The JAC is the independent body responsible for the selection of candidates for judicial office in tribunals and courts in England and Wales. It was established under the Constitutional Reform Act 2005 and formally launched in April 2006.

Following a career practising as a media and sports lawyer, Sir Mark (a former member of 5RB) was appointed a High Court Judge in 2014, Judge in Charge of the Media and Communications List in 2017, Chair of the High Court Judges’ Association in 2019, and Lord Justice of Appeal in 2020, since when he has sat on many of the most significant media law appeals.
