Meaning of Coleen Rooney’s social media posts determined in Vardy v Rooney libel case

Mr Justice Warby has determined the meaning of posts on Instagram and Twitter by the Defendant, Coleen Rooney, in this high profile libel case.

The action arises from statements made by Coleen Rooney in connection with the alleged leaking of stories about her to the Sun newspaper.  In that respect, Ms Rooney’s statements identifed Ms Vardy.

Warby J found the statements complained of to mean:

“Over a period of years Ms Vardy had regularly and frequently abused her status as a trusted follower of Ms Rooney’s personal Instagram account by secretly informing The Sun newspaper of Ms Rooney’s private posts and stories, thereby making public without Ms Rooney’s permission a great deal of information about Ms Rooney, her friends and family which she did not want made public.”

This is substantially similar to the meaning contended for by the Claimant, Rebekah Vardy.

The judgment can be found at the ‘Files‘ link below.
