No Restriction on Court File Access in Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Judicial Review

At a hearing today before Mr Justice Hilliard, the Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police’s application to restrict access to documents held on the court file reached its conclusion.  The application had been made in the judicial review proceedings brought by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, challenging the lawfulness of search warrants obtained by Thames Valley Police.

The Chief Constable had initially sought to restrict non-party access to documents held on the court file to protect the integrity of the criminal investigation into Mr Mountbatten-Windsor.  However, shortly before determination of his application, the Chief Constable indicated that he was no longer pursuing his application to restrict access to the court file and, instead, would seek limited redaction of certain documents held on the court instead, a position which the Court accepted.

Samuel Rowe was instructed in respect of the Chief Constable’s application by the in-house legal teams at Associated Newspapers Limited, the BBC, Guardian News and Media Limited, Times Media Limited, Telegraph Media Group Holdings Limited, Independent Television News Limited and Sky UK Limited.
