Background
5RB - Leading barristers' chambers specialising in all areas of Media & Communications Law

Professor Tony Smith

Friends and former colleagues at 5RB of Professor Tony Smith, known in academic circles as A.T.H Smith, are greatly saddened to learn of the death of Tony peacefully at his home in New Zealand, on 18 August.

During his stellar academic career at Cambridge University and Victoria University of Wellington, Tony spent some time at 5RB where he was an Associate Member. He was better known to those who practise in media law as one of the authors of Arlidge, Eady & Smith on Contempt and, for those who aspire to study and practise the law, as successor to Glanville Williams as author of ‘Learning the Law’. He greatly contributed to the development of close links between legal academia and practice and between this country and New Zealand.

Tony was a delightful friend and colleague and will be greatly missed.
