The BBC had a successful evening at last night’s Sony Radio Awards.
Radio 2 confirmed its position as the most popular station by winning the station of the year prize. Jeremy Vine, who took over the station’s lunchtime programme from Jimmy Young in January 2003 picked up the speech broadcaster of the year and Steve Wright won a gold award at the ceremony in London.
Radio 4’s Eddie Mair, one of the presenters of PM, was awarded best news journalist.
Chrisitan O’Connell from London station XFM picked up three awards, including best breakfast show and Danny Baker from BBC London 94.9 won best DJ of the year.
