Victoria Simon-Shore specialises in the areas of defamation, privacy, confidence, media law, harassment and data protection.

She advises and acts for claimants and defendants, including for and against the traditional media and social media organisations, public authorities, publishers, private individuals, companies, charities, religious organisations, ambassadors and officials, political parties, trade unions, for and against universities, academics, utility suppliers, royalty, British and foreign politicians and one of the world’s largest entertainments companies.

Victoria is public access accredited and is regularly instructed directly by members of the public and companies, most often in relation to defamation, privacy and harassment matters. One such client, a university professor, commented that “the quality of the legal advice was both exemplary and flexible. Acting in a construction dispute with a malicious falsehood counterclaim.

Acted for high net worth individual in relation to a libel claim against persons unknown.

Acted for a couple in a libel, malicious falsehood and harassment claim sued by a large commercial flower grower over the sending of emails to its commercial clients.

Hayden v Family Education Trust [2023] EWHC 950 (KB)

Struck out a claim for online libel on grounds of serious harm.

Acted for nephew co-claimant of the former Leader of the Opposition of Pakistan over allegations published in The Mail on Sunday alleging embezzlement of millions of UK state aid for earthquake victims.

Libel claim issued by solicitor against ex-wife struck out.

Successfully struck out libel claim brought by former member of staff against the global tyre manufacturer on jurisdictional grounds; successfully resisted permission to appeal at oral permission hearing.

Obtaining a damages award in the sum of £80,000 for a claimant who had sued over online libels.

For the defendants, the striking out of a slander claim brought against a Council and the Leader of the Council by care home providers: see Meadows Care v Lambert.

Successfully resisting an application for interim injunctive relief in a slander action.

Represented X in successfully defending numerous defamation and data protection claims.

Jerrard v Blyth & Ors [2014] EWHC 647 (QB) 30/03/2014

Early in her career, Victoria was led in the defence of the libel and slander action brought by Peter Andre against his former wife, Katie Price.

Advised a high-profile individual in relation to intimate images unlawfully distributed by her high-profile former partner.

Advised an international luxury hotel chain defending a claim for damages for misuse of private information and data protection following a data breach.

Advised on a number of infant settlements in privacy claims brought against healthcare providers and local authorities.

Acting against police forces in privacy claims brought by serving and former police officers.

Early in her career, Victoria was second junior for the claimant in the High Court privacy action brought by Max Mosley against the News of the World.

Successfully resisting an application for the stay of proceedings brought by the defendant care home provider in a claim for a judicial determination of a data subject access request.

Obtained interim injunction to restrain ongoing publication of a book containing private information about the claimant, violating her privacy rights and right to anonymity as a victim of sexual offences.

COS v PER & PHO [2021] EWHC 475 (QB)

Obtained urgent interim injunction to restrain publication of private information and harassment of foreign national by means of YouTube broadcasts.

Permanent undertakings, damages and costs obtained against former employee in respect of a claim and interim injunction issued to protect against misuse of private information and serious online harassment of directors of a company and for breach of confidence of commercially sensitive information.

Srinivasan v Tata Technologies Ltd & Jaguar Land Rover Limited  [2021] EWHC 602 (QB)

Acted as sole counsel at 4- day trial of a claim for workplace harassment for the successful defendants, the libel and privacy claims having earlier been struck out.

Obtaining an interim injunction and anonymity order to restrain harassment in the form of a highly damaging website created by the ex-wife of the claimant.

Notable Cases

Providing legal advice on the complexities of publicity to large group of class action claimants in breach of contract claim against international conglomerate.

Regularly provides pre-publication advice to newspapers, print publishers, broadcasters, production companies and self-publishers. Gained considerable experience in providing legal and OFCOM compliance advice, often in relation to live broadcasts, while seconded to Channel 4 and advising Channel 5.  Victoria also assists with securing E&O insurance for the production of West End plays and regularly advises on all aspects of films scripts.

Advising local authorities on publication issues, including the process of Maxwellisation and on the privacy rights of third parties.

Recently advised a media organisation on complaint of breaches of anonymity order.

Advised major publishing houses on exposés of terrorism involvement, criminal and fraudulent wrongdoing where criminal prosecutions are ongoing.

Successfully resisted contempt proceedings for client alleged to be in breach of court injunction.
