Adam Speker KC took silk in 2020 and specialises in all aspects of media and communications law including defamation, privacy, breach of confidence, harassment and data protection. He appears regularly in the High Court and appellate courts, including the CA, the Privy Council and the Supreme Court.
He has considerable expertise obtaining urgent injunctions in cases concerning freedom of expression and is particularly well-known for his recent work in ransomware / data breach cases having appeared in almost all of the injunction applications in this area.
He has experience in media law cases in other common law jurisdictions, including Bermuda, where he has appeared in the CA, Trinidad & Tobago and Dominica, where he has appeared in the Privy Council, and in Singapore and Malaysia.
He is the joint editor, with Professor Nicole Moreham, of the current edition of The Law of Privacy and the Media (OUP).

Adam has significant experience in harassment cases, particularly in obtaining interim injunctions and on behalf of local authorities. He appeared for the successful party in Crawford v Jenkins, the leading CA decision on witness immunity under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
The leading silk for ransomware injunctions, Adam has enormous experience obtaining injunctions at very short notice in cases concerning alleged blackmail, whether involving individuals or corporations and appearing on appeals in respect of injunctions.
Adam is regularly instructed in cases before publication has taken place to advice potential claimants on whether to seek injunctive relief and on how best to respond to media enquiries.
He is also instructed by publishers on how to mitigate risk prior to publication.
Adam appeared as junior counsel for the Telegraph Media Group at the Leveson Inquiry.
Adam has considerable experience in matters relating to contempt of court. He regularly advises on such issues and has appeared on in a number of committal proceedings.
Adam acts in reporting restriction cases in all courts, with particular expertise in the High Court and the Family Division.
