5RB Hosts BVL, PASS and MTAttB Placement Students

Over the last month, 5RB has taken part in three access schemes for aspiring lawyers.

The first was hosted through the Middle Temple Access to the Bar Award. The scheme is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students who meet certain criteria and who are nominated by their universities. Prospective applicants can read more about the scheme, here.

The second was the Inner Temple’s Pegasus Access and Support Scheme (“PASS”). PASS is open to state school students who are on course to attain, or have attained, a 2:1 in their undergraduate degree or equivalent and who meet certain criteria. The PASS and MTAttB students attended court, did a mock exercise and were given sessions on scholarship and pupillage applications and interview preparation.

Finally, this week, 5RB hosted five students in chambers in conjunction with BVL, a social mobility charity which provides legal careers guidance and opportunities. The scheme is open to young people aged 16 to 18 who are either studying or have recently completed their A-levels at a state school or college.

Over two days, the BVL students were given talks by 5RB‘s Justin Rushbrooke KC, Jonathan Barnes KC, Lily Walker-Parr, Hope Williams, Gemma McNeil-Walsh, Sam Rowe andKatya Pereira on 5RB‘s core practice areas; a negotiation masterclass by clerks Antony Braeger and Zach Birse; and a behind the scenes tour of Lincoln’s Inn, kindly hosted by Outreach Officer, Alexis Friday. More information about the BVL/5RB partnership, which is entering its fourth year, can be found here.

5RB encourages all eligible students to apply for the above placements in the next application round.
