Chloe Strong is a highly regarded junior barrister specialising in privacy, breach of confidence, defamation, harassment, data protection, and reporting restrictions work. She acts for both claimants and defendants and has a particular interest in urgent breach of privacy/confidence injunctions, claims relating to the television and music industries and those with a US aspect.

Chloe has acted on a number of notable matters to date, including libel, privacy and data protection claims brought by Sir James Dyson, Sir Philip Green and Arcadia, Noel Clarke and Julie Bindel, to name a few. A summary of these cases and other highlights are detailed below.

Prior to joining the Bar Chloe qualified as a corporate solicitor in 2010 at Linklaters LLP and was then appointed as Judicial Assistant to Lord Neuberger (then Master of the Rolls) at the Court of Appeal in 2011/12 where she assisted the LJJ’s work on various seminal media law appeals including Ntuli v Donald [2011] 1 WLR 294 (concerning the grant of super-injunctions) and JIH v Newsgroup Newspapers [2011] 1 WLR 1645 (concerning the grant of anonymity and other derogations from Open Justice).

She also assisted the Committee on Super-injunctions established by Lord Neuberger which published its report in May 2011 and helped to draft the Model Interim Non-Disclosure Order which continues to be used as the template for all injunctions sought in the Media and Communications List. Chloe is also presently involved in updating the Model Order and related Guidance in 2026.

Steve Davies v BBC (2024)

Acted as Junior to William Bennett KC for the C in respect of a defamation claim brought against the BBC by the former chauffeur to HRH Diana Princess of Wales in relation to false allegations made by journalist Martin Bashir that C had leaked confidential information about the Princess, which had been made by Mr Bashir in a bid to secure the infamous BBC Panorama interview with the Princess. C obtained substantial compensation and an apology from the BBC.

Sir James Dyson v MGN Ltd (2023)

Acted as Junior to Justin Rushbrooke KC for the C in respect of a defamation claim brought over an article which appeared in the Mirror alleging that C was a bad role model for children because he had “screwed” the UK by campaigning for Brexit but then moving his headquarters to Singapore. C was ultimately unsuccessful in his claim, losing on serious harm and the honest opinion defence. No serious harm was proved and the honest opinion defence succeeded.

Noel Clarke v Guardian Newspapers Ltd (2023)

Acted as sole counsel to the C, the well-known actor, director and producer, at the outset of his defamation and data protection claim following allegations published by the Guardian that he was a sexual predator. The claim went to trial in 2025.

Julie Bindel v Pink News Ltd (2021)

Acted as Junior to Heather Rogers KC for C, the well-known feminist, broadcaster and author, who sued over an article published in 2020 on the PinkNews website entitled “The ‘gender critical’ feminist movement is a cult that grooms, controls and abuses, according to a lesbian who managed to escape”, which detailed the experiences of a young lesbian and her involvement with what she termed the “Gender Critical cult”. Although the article did not name Ms Bindel, she was identifiable as a result of the details contained within it. The claim was settled on confidential terms with C receiving an apology from PinkNews.

Gubarev v Steele & Orbis [2020] EWHC 2912 (QB)

Acting for the Cs, led by Andrew Caldecott KC, in a defamation claim concerning allegations contained in a dossier produced by Christopher Steele, the former MI6 agent, which were published by BuzFeed.

Alex Reid v KM Media Ltd (2020)

Acted for C, a former husband of the ex-glamour model Katie Price, who brought a claim for defamation in respect of an article published on Kent Online alleging that Mr Reid had hacked Ms Price’s mobile telephone. C successfully obtained damages and an apology from the D and a joint statement in open court.

A television presenter v The Daily Mail (2019)

Successfully obtained a settlement for the C following false claims made about the presenter’s parenting abilities which also constituted a breach of privacy and confidence.

Chloe is presently acting on several privacy claims, including for high profile individuals, the details of which cannot be made public due to the nature of the claims.

Acted for D, a former partner of the C, who successfully struck out a breach of privacy, confidence and data protection claim as an abuse of process. The C had complained that a profile on Facebook revealed that he had a second family, something which he had hoped to keep secret from his wife, friends and business associates.

Alex Reid v Katie Price (2018)

Acted for C, former husband to the former glamour model Katie Price, who sued her for a breach of privacy and his data protection rights following publication by Ms Price of a video containing private footage relating to him. C obtained an interim injunction against Ms Price and was ultimately successful in his claim against her, where he obtained damages and a final injunction.

OPO v Rhodes (previously MLA) (2015)

Acted for C as a Junior to Matthew Nicklin QC (as he then was) in injunction proceedings aimed at preventing publication of an autobiography by James Rhodes, a classical musician and the C’s father, on the grounds of a breach of privacy, negligence and intentional infliction of emotional harm under the rule in Wilkinson v Downton.

Acted at the outset of her claim for Ms Jarman, the girlfriend of Earl Spencer, who was suing Lady Spencer, the Earl’s ex-wife, for a breach of privacy.

Arcadia Group Ltd (formerly ABC) v Telegraph Media Group Ltd: [2018] EWHC 2177 (QB) (interim injunction application), [2019] EMLR 5 (Court of Appeal hearing), [2019] 1 Costs LO 169 and [2019] EWHC 223 (QB) (discontinuance and other orders)

Acted for the Arcadia retail group, which brought a breach of confidence claim over allegations of misconduct by Sir Philip Green and others, which the Telegraph wished to report. C successfully obtained an interim injunction from the Court of Appeal but discontinued the claim shortly after Sir Phillip was named by Lord Hain in the House of Lords as being the subject of the allegations.

Matthew Earl v Jones Day & Kroll Associates UK Ltd (2023/2024)

Acted as Junior for Kroll, the corporate intelligence group, led by Adam Wolanski KC in a claim brought by a short seller Mr Earl who alleged that Kroll had carried out a campaign of harassment against him that was aimed at deterring him from reporting on the now collapsed German group Wirecard. The case concerned events from 2016/2017 when C had authored a series of anonymous reports published under the names “Zatarra” and “VisMas Files” which accused Wirecard of fraud, money laundering and regulatory offences. Kroll had been hired by Wirecard to provide corporate investigatory services. In addition to his claim for harassment, C brought a misuse of private information and a conspiracy claim against the Ds.

Chloe has provided a broad range of pre-publication advice to various publishers and broadcasters including Channel 4, the BBC, Harper Collins, Bloomsbury Books, the Times, the Sunday Times and the Independent in respect of articles, books, TV programmes and podcasts.

Notable Cases

X & Y v BBC, A Local Authority & Z ("In re HMP") [2025] EWCA Civ 824

Chloe acted for the local authority in this application made by the BBC for documentation relating to underlying care proceedings and the relaxation of automatic reporting restrictions under s12 Administration of Justice Act 1960 that were in place in relation to those proceedings. The appeal concerned the application of the principles from Dring (on behalf of the Asbestos Victims Support Groups Forum UK) v Cape Intermediate Holdings Ltd (Media Lawyers Association intervening) [2019] UKSC 38; [2020] AC 629. Chloe appeared both at first instance before Lieven J and before the Court of Appeal at the permission to appeal stage, after which the matter was settled by consent and the appeal was allowed.

Chloe has experience of advising in respect of her specialist areas of practice in the international arbitration context. Contractual media disputes: Chloe has advised individuals and groups within the media, music and TV industries in relation to contractual disputes.

Notable Cases

A breach of contract claim for a music management company against a band they had signed, which subsequently signed with a competitor in breach of contract. The dispute was settled through a confidential mediation.

Representing an award-winning composer and artist in a breach of contract claim against a music video producer for recovery of fees following a disagreement between the parties.

Advising in relation to copyright issues arising as a result of a competitor’s use of musical content without permission.

Coventry v Lawrence [2015] UKSC 50

Acted as Junior to Gavin Millar KC intervening on behalf of the Media Lawyers’ Association in the Supreme Court, in an appeal concerning the compatibility of the pre-LASPO conditional fee agreement regime and the European Convention on Human Rights, in particular Article 10 ECHR.
