Katya Pereira

Katya joined 5RB in October 2024 upon completion of her pupillage. She accepts instructions across all areas of Chambers.

During pupillage, Katya was supervised by Kate Wilson, Jonathan Scherbel-Ball, Gervase de Wilde and Chloe Strong and undertook placements at the BBC and The Times. Cases with which Katya assisted during pupillage included:

  • Dyson v Channel 4 & ITN: libel claim in respect of a broadcast (assisting Adam Wolanski KC and Gervase de Wilde for the defendants)
  • Vine v Barton: TPI on meaning in a libel claim (assisting Gervase de Wilde and Luke Browne for the claimant)
  • Blake & Ors v Fox: eight-day libel trial in the High Court (assisting Greg Callus, Alex Marzec and Hope Williams for the defendant)

Prior to 5RB

Before joining 5RB, Katya worked for a period in the art world, having graduated with First-Class Honours in History of Art from the University of Edinburgh and having received her MA in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art. She went on to study for the Graduate Diploma in Law at City University, in which she obtained a Distinction, and subsequently completed the Bar Course at the Inns of Court College of Advocacy, having been awarded the Lord Denning Scholarship from the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn.
